Reduce Pain and Accelerate Healing: Modern Acupuncture At ACE Physio Centre, we integrate proven, traditional techniques with modern medical science. Acupuncture and Dry Needling are powerful tools we use alongside our physiotherapy treatments to help reduce your pain, release muscle tension, and stimulate your body’s natural healing process.

What is Acupuncture?

This term can refer to several techniques, all of which use fine, sterile, single-use needles. At ACE Physio Centre, our certified therapists practice two main forms:

  • Western Medical Acupuncture: This is a modern, science-based approach. We insert fine needles at specific points on the body, which are chosen based on our deep understanding of anatomy and neurophysiology. This stimulates the nervous system to release your body’s own natural pain-relieving chemicals (like endorphins) and increases blood flow to the area to promote healing.

  • Dry Needling: This technique is specifically used to treat muscular pain. We insert a fine needle directly into a myofascial “trigger point”—a tight, sensitive knot in your muscle. This elicits a “twitch” response, which causes the tight muscle band to relax, relieving tension, reducing pain, and restoring normal muscle function.

Why Choose ACE Physio Centre for Acupuncture?

Choosing where you get acupuncture is important. When you come to us, you get the benefit of a highly trained, diagnostic professional.

  • Expert Diagnosis: We don't just "treat points." Our physiotherapists are musculoskeletal experts. We only recommend acupuncture or dry needling after a thorough assessment confirms it is the right and safest treatment for your specific diagnosis.

  • Modern Approach: We use acupuncture as one part of a complete, evidence-based plan. We use it to reduce your pain and release muscle tension so that you can more effectively perform the corrective exercises and manual therapy needed to fix the root cause of your problem.

  • Advanced Training & Safety: Our therapists have completed extensive post-graduate training and certification in Western Medical Acupuncture and Dry Needling. We adhere to the strictest standards of safety and hygiene.

  • One-on-One Dedicated Care: Your therapist will be with you throughout the session, integrating this technique with other hands-on care and ensuring your comfort and safety at all times.

Common Conditions We Treat

We use these techniques as a highly effective part of a complete physiotherapy plan. They are excellent for:

  • Chronic Lower Back Pain and Sciatica

  • Neck Pain and associated Tension Headaches

  • Stubborn Muscle Knots (Trigger Points) in the shoulders, back, and glutes

  • Shoulder Pain (e.g., rotator cuff issues, impingement)

  • Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis) and Golfer's Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis)

  • Hip Pain (e.g., gluteal tendinopathy, piriformis syndrome)

Your Questions Answered

How long does the treatment last?

Acupuncture/Dry Needling is a tool used within your physiotherapy appointment; it is not a standalone treatment. Your therapist will integrate it into your regular treatment plan as needed. Most patients who benefit from it will receive it over 3 to 6 sessions as part of their comprehensive rehabilitation.

How many sessions will I need?

While some patients feel relief after just one session, a full course is needed for lasting tissue repair. The evidence-based protocol is typically 3 to 5 treatment sessions, spaced approximately one week apart.

Does the treatment hurt?

This is the most common question we get! The needles we use are extremely fine—much thinner than a standard injection needle.
